Manitowish Waters Lions Club Presents
Awards
(Special to the Lakeland Times by Jean Rein)
The Manitowish Waters
Lions Club recently held its spring ladies’ night and awards banquet at
the Little Bohemia.
President Bob Becker
awarded membership awards for various years, and Don and Charlie Rayala
and Harry Kazsmarek were recognized as charter members of the
organization. Five new members were inducted into the club by district
governor Dennis Knott of Merrill, who reminded them and the others
present that the Lions motto is “reaching, touching and improving
lives.”
Becker named Henry
Bauers Lion of the Year for his service to the club and to the community
and Joe Guenther received the honor of being named Citizen of the Year.
Bill Radant was recognized for being editor of the monthly newsletter
for 12 years.
Dan Meier and
President Becker received the prestigious Melvin Jones award bestowed by
Knott, followed by naming Parker Sharp recipient of the Lions Club’s
highest award, the Birch-Strum Fellowship.
All three men have
made many contributions to the club and are always willing to help when
needed.
